Build & Deploy track : what to expect

In conversation with Ixchel Ruiz, who led the content review team for the Build & Deploy track at Devoxx Uk this year.

What is the Build and Deploy track all about at Devoxx UK and why is it important?

Well, I think Build and Deploy encompasses everything that is not about the programming languages and the code, but how do we build the systems or the artifacts, and what else do we have to take into consideration when we are finally on the place of saying, ‘Here it is, World. Consume it.’

What can people expect from the track this year?

It is a broad topic, and we’ll be revisiting some fundamental topics, which is really important, and use cases, reports from large organizations doing shifts that are sometimes scary and that perspective is always useful. I think a lot of the developers in the world can learn something either in the path, the decisions made and the results that they are getting. A lot is about how we achieve things in a more efficient way. Observability is really important, and you’ll also find talks on green software, which is close to my heart, and I think we have to put more focus  on it. There’s another session that I’m really looking forward to is about feature flagging, which I think will solve a lot of problems.

Who are these sessions most vital to?

Developers, also architects, and project product managers or product owners because you usually need to understand not only the solution to the problem, either the technology or knowing how to use it or improve it, but also the whys: why you should ask this particular question, why you should use this particular tool. In the Build and Deploy track, we answer a lot of those questions.

What excites you most about Devoxx UK overall?

Oh my God, honestly, it’s one of the conferences that takes a lot of care into finding the right topics, the right speakers. We discuss, we talk, we try to recruit the best speakers. If you have an excellent topic in the Build and Deploy area, please, please consider submitting next year into Devoxx UK. I will be very, very grateful for that. Yes, and excellent attendees. Amazing content and a great care in how everything is organized.

What advice do you have for someone who still hasn’t decided whether to go to Devoxx UK this year?

Go. That’s easy. Just go.
