What’s happening in Java at Devoxx UK 2026?

We chatted with Andres Almiray, leader of the Java track this year, to get a gauge on what to expect.

Why is the Java track such an important part of Devoxx UK?

Well, as some people may be aware, Devoxx UK has its roots in the Java community, so the Java Track is quite core to what the conference has always been. And you’ll see this reflected in some of the content, where we have core Java topics covering libraries and the JDK, but also performance and popular frameworks likeSpring Boot and Quarkus.

Was there anything surprising that came up in any of the submissions this year for Java?

Not necessarily surprising but I like the fact that we get a good level of submissions related to performance and compilers. I think that this is quite unique to Devoxx UK compared to other conferences. You can go really deep in this topic if you want to.

What does this year’s Java lineup say about where the industry is heading?

Spring Boot continues to be very popular and other frameworks as well, so we make sure to cover those. But we also cover a few other libraries too. I’m looking forward to hearing more about JBang, which lets you run Java in many different ways. There’s also talks covering Project Babylon and Project Panama. So all these things are really important to know about and provide the Java track with focus.

Who do you think will gain most from attending these sessions?

Developers in general who want to improve their hands-on experiences. There’s plenty of topics for you to gather information, take home and the next day after you come back from the conference you can really put those things to work immediately. Architects, CIOs and CTOs can also definitely benefit.
