If you’re not familiar with London, or even if you are, there are some great apps which can help you make the most of your time in town. Here’s a list of what we find most helpful.

We use this to find our way around London all the time - and we live here! Especially good if you want to get somewhere using London's public transport network. Simple to use, just dial in where you want to go and it returns multiple options with cost and duration of journey.

Why indeed, when someone else can do it all for you. YPlan lets you browse a curated shortlist of the best events every night and book in app without the need to print anything. There’s an added bonus of some great discounts on everything from West End shows to Club Nights to High Tea. If you're going to be in London for a few extra days and there isn't a Devoxx event happening, YPlan can help you fill some down time.

Get a London black cab wherever you are, whenever you want. With two taps on your phone you can order a cab - choose to pay by card or cash, and get an email receipt right away.

Maybe you prefer a mini cab rather than one of those antique Hackney carriages. Uber let's you request a pick-up based on your location, and choose taxi’s from eco-friendly models to lux options. You can pay with Google Wallet, PayPal, or credit card and can even split your fare with friends. London is a busy old place, so more than one taxi app on your phone is no bad thing.

Check out restaurants, search by area, food type, budget etc. Regular special offers come courtesy of some great London eateries too.

Time out London
Basically, everything that's going on. A little more mainstream than some of the other going out apps London has to offer, Time Out still ticks the right boxes if you're on the look out for theatre, cinema, events and general London goodness.

Met Office
Never been to London in the Summer? Knowing what's going on with the weather is akin knowing whether Schrodinger’s cat is dead. One minute sunshine, the next minute the heavens open and you're left needing wellies and a Macintosh (not the type with a keyboard). Met Office gives you lowdown on atmospheric conditions - much easier than carrying a barometer in your suitcase.
